Hoteliers’ demand Jammu fest in Dec | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Nov 29: All Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association has demanded that the annual Jammu tourism festival would be celebrated in the month of December instead of April as had been the case hitherto. They also demanded holding of a meeting of concerned officials and non-offecial tourism related organizations to chalk out programme for holding Jammu festival. A meeting of the hoteliers Association held here today under the chairmanship of its president Inderjeet Khajuria pointed out that in a recent meeting convened by the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu and Director Tourism, it was decided that Jammu festival would be celebrated in December, adding, although November month has come to close and December is about to start, but there appear no signs of celebrating Jammu tourism festival as no meeting of the organizing committee has been called far. Demanding that he new scheduled of holding the festival in December should be adhered to, the Association pointed out that this time of the year is most appropriate for holding the festival, since secretariat and other move offices are in Jammu as well as there is still heavy rush of Vaishno Devi pilgrims around this time. The April month becomes very hot and humid and coinsiding of Jammu tourism festival with Baisakhi festival mars the importance of the two occasions. AJHLA further suggested that the programmes for holding of festival should be chalked out with the view to attract tourists from outside the state as well as motivate the Vaishno Devi pilgrims to participate in the same, so that other shrines and potential tourist resorts are exposed to them. The Association expressed gratitude to the Minister for irrigation and PHE Taj Mohi-u-din, for taking personal interest in the project of creating artificial lade in river Tawi. It demanded that the target of making the lake functional within two months, as fixed by the minister should be strictly adhered to. It also demanded that special stress should be laid on development of Border tourism at Suchetgarh on the pattern of Wagah Border, with holding of ceremonial parade by the BSF on Indian side and Pak rangers on the other side of the border. It also demanded bringing Chamleyal shrine on the map of piligrimage and tourism at the country level. Others who attended the meeting included B.S Manhas vice president, Pawan Gupta general Secretary, Baldev treasurer and Amarjeet Singh secretary. .
