Public support must in wiping out militancy: Lt Gen Roy | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 29: 16 corps commander Lt Gen Rameshwar Roy today emphasised the need for public support to security forces in wiping out militancy from Jammu and Kashmir. "The people of the state should support security forces in complete eradication of militancy from their areas," he said during his tour to Poonch district to take stock of the ground situation. He also assured them full co-operation and assistance by the security forces and appreciated the efforts made by people of Surankote for maintaining peace and harmony. Roy complimented Romeo Force and SOG who participated in the successful operation conducted in Muri Marha forest area of Surankote Tehsil, in which three hardcore LeT ultras were killed on November 25 and a cache of arms and ammunition was recovered. "This operation was a fine example of bravery and tactical acumen displayed by troops in extremely inhospitable terrain which makes the conduct of such operations extremely difficult and challenging," he said, adding that the killing of the three militants was a major blow to the ultras. In past eight months, Romeo Force had done a commendable job in eliminating militancy from the area and bringing life to near normal, he asserted. |
