| Work on 45 irrigation schemes to be completed this year | | | JAMMU, NOVEMBER 04 Expressing satisfaction over the working of engineers of the state in the utilization of funds provided under different schemes, particularly under AIBP schemes, Commissioner (Projects) Ministry of Water Resources GOI, Mr Indra Raj has said that union government would extend every possible support for the ongoing and proposed irrigation projects across the state. The Commissioner projects, who has on a week long tour of the state, reviewed the work of ongoing irrigation projects in the state being funded by the GOI here today. Expressing satisfaction over the extension of various schemes, Mr Raj asked the PHE, Irrigation Department to submit completion certificates so that more projects could be approved for the state. He said that GOI is providing 90 percent funding to some states under special category and Jammu and Kashmir is one of them. “We have reviewed the ongoing works and the officials were directed to further expedite the work as the irrigation was a necessary component for the farmers of the state’, he said. Commissioner/Secretary PHE, Irrigation Flood Control of J&K Mr Mehboob Iqbal informed the meeting that maximum projects are in its final stage and some projects are pending for want of funds. “The department would complete more than 45 schemes this year and this would be the largest completed scheme in a year”, he said adding. “The achievement was made possible due to the close coordination of the state and union ministry officials. Mr Iqbal also informed the union commissioner regarding the proposed projects which the department is expected to take up after the completion of some of the major irrigation schemes, this year. Among others, Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control Mr V K Abrol, Superintendent Engineer (Hydraulic) Mr Ashok Gupta and Executive Engineers of the department were present in the meeting. |
