Farmers block Nagri-Kathua road, demand compensation | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT KATHUA 30 NOV, The farmers, under the the banner of Kisaan Movement (wing- Nature Mankind Friendly Global Movement), today blocked the Nagri- Kathua road for an hour at village Kokhyal to lodge their protest against the district administration and state government for not paying compensation against their fertile land acquired for the construction of multipurpose Chack Dam here today. The protest led by the senior leader of Kisaan Movement Sarpanch Karan Singh resented over the callous attitude of the government and the irrigation department for providing compensation to the farmers whose fertile had been acquired to construct the Chack Dam. He said that more than 180 kanal land and their more than fifty owners were suffering because these owners had only this piece of land for their survival and regretted that irrigation department and even the concerned minister of PHE Irrigation & flood control, Taj Mohi-Din had given only hollow assurances and nothing has been done to save these farmers from starvation. The Kisaan Movement further threatened the administration and the government to face the dire consequences if the compensation will not be given at the earliest. In the protest farmers Mala Singh, Boop Singh, Hazara Singh, Gurdayal Chand, Thuru Ram, Thapu Ram, Ram Lal, Devi Singh, Karam Singh, Chatter Singh .
