vQamarwari encounter ‘19-year-old Arshad was a student of Bemina College’ | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 30: A police man lost his life at Qmarwari, Srinagar yesterday in a shoot out. According to police a gun battle ensued between the militants and the police immediately after the shoot out. Three militants including a foreigner got killed, the police said. However, the father of one of the slain youth today exploded what he calls `encounter myth'. Peerzada Bashir Ahmad Gamgeen of Alsafa Colony Sopore received the shock of his life around 5.30 p.m yesterday. He received a call. "Your son Arshad Ahmad Peer got killed in an encounter with the police at Qamarwari, Srinagar", he was told. Perzada could not believe it. His son was not even remotely connected with militancy. Peerzada narrated his tale to Early Times. "My son went to Srinagar on Saturday to get his Roll No slip from Government Degree College Bemina where he was a student of BA 2nd year. He returned safe and sound same day but left for his Srinagar again on Sunday. He lives in a rented accommodation at Bemina near his college. He did not return on Sunday. On Monday evening I received the shocking news." The news of Arshad's death evoked severe reaction in the apple town. The shocked relatives rushed to SP office where they were they were told that Arshad was killed along with two fellow militants at Qamarwari. The police also said that one of the slain militants was a foreigner. The relatives waited anxiously for the body which was handed over to them around 2.15 a.m. "The SP told us to bury the body at Al Safa Colony by 3 a.m. However, we waited and laid slain Arshad to rest at Achabal at 9.30 a.m today", Peerzada said. People sobbed and wailed while Arshad's body was lowered in the grave, the relatives said. Slogans against the police were also raised. Arshad, a sobbing Peerzada said, was only 19. The relatives also identified another slain youth as Ashiq of Seer Jagir. "He was a former militant", they said. A local news agency identified the third slain youth as Wasim Raza. Meanwhile, apple town Sopore observed total strike today in protest against the killing. The protesters demanded a high level probe in the `fake encounter'. |
