Kavinder’s chances for State BJP Chief brightens
‘Chaman extends support’
11/4/2006 11:12:15 PM
JAMMU NOV-04- Chances of Kavinder Gupta, as the new BJP State President, brightened here today following the support by the Party stalwart and former Minister Prof Chaman Lal Gupta for his candidature as the Party Chief.
According to the party sources, Prof Gupta who was considered one of the contender for the post is reported to have decided to favour the candidature of Kavinder Gupta in view of his track record in the party and close contacts with the party activists across the State in general and Jammu region in particular.
Though the Party High Command at New Delhi has not made up its mind about the probable candidate for the post of party chief in Jammu and Kashmir, the election for which is due on November 8 with last date for filing nominations on November 7,2006.
With only three days left for the election, the uncertainty prevails in the BJP camp over the party candidate. If the sources are to be believed if no consensus is arrived at for a common candidate, there may be a triangular contest. The reports suggest that besides Kavinder, Ashok Khajuria and the party General Secretary are in the fray, though officially none has filed his nomination papers so far, which started from yesterday. The reports indicate that Prof Hari Om is also planning to fight the election for the coveted post of Party Chief but how far he would succeed, only the time will tell.
If the party sources are to be believed, Kavinder would be the main contender as majority of the party activists and leaders are favouring his candidature.
The reports said that the party high command is in dilemma and is still undecided about a suitable candidate for the post of party Chief and in case no consensus is arrived Dr.Nirmal Singh may be allowed to continue.
If the current indications are any guide, Kavinder is expected to emerge the consensus candidate as majority of the office bearers and party workers favour his candidature, being honest, dedicated and a soft spoken leader.
