12/1/2010 9:50:07 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 01: Sailing over superb half centuries by wicket-keeper batsmen, Arshad Bhat and Hardeep Singh, Jammu and Kashmir made a respectable total of 253 in the first innings after Andhra Pradesh won the toss and opted to field on the opening day of the Ranji Trophy Plate Group-B league tie at GGM Science College Hostel ground, here today.
Hosts J&K lost all their wickets for 253 runs in 86.2 overs and Andhra did not resume their innings for poor visibility. Hardeep Singh remained unbeaten at 66 runs while Arshad Bhat hit another half century contributing same 66 runs to the team’s total.
Earlier, Arshad, who came at the crease after the dismissal of opener Ian Dev Singh (5), brought J&K out of troubled waters and played a key role in 48 runs second wicket stand with Fayaz Ahmed. Unlucky Fayaz was run out by Sahabuddin when initiating a risky single at his individual score of 31.
Notwithstanding the pressure mounted by Andhra bowlers, experienced Arshad kept the one end intact and was instrumental in building another valuable partnership of 68 runs with Asif Jeelani. However, he lost his wicket while attempting to make two at a score of 66. When Arshad lost his wicket, J&K were already reached 128 for three in 41.5 overs.
After the dismissal of Aditya Pratap Singh (24), rest of the side could not face the bowling wrath of Andhra and bowled out for 253 runs. Last four wickets fell for 32 runs, including that of skipper Abid Nabi (8).
Meanwhile, R S Sambyal has made debut from Jammu and Kashmir as bower in this fourth league tie of the Ranji Trophy.
