| 6th Prof. S.C. Dube Memorial lecture organized | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU Dec 01: The Department of Sociology, University of Jammu organised the 6th Prof. S.C.Dube Memorial lecture in the Environmental Sciences Seminar Hall, University of Jammu.
The lecture was presided over by Prof. I.V.Malhan, Dean Behavioural Sciences, University of Jammu.
Prof Anand Kumar, an eminent sociologist from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi delivered a lecture on ‘Sociology and Social Policy in India Today’. This lecture is an annual feature of the department in the memory of Prof. S.C Dube, a renowned sociologist and a well known academic administrator. Besides his contributions to the field of Social Sciences, Prof. Dube was the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jammu.
Addressing the audience, Prof. Anand Kumar highlighted the contributions of Prof. S.C. Dube in various fields like caste and social change, weaker sections, community development related challenges, higher education and status of teaching and research in social sciences.
In his address, Prof Malhan laid emphasis on the need of solving the present crises in the field of health, education and other institutions by involving the expertise of sociologists in policy making. Prof. Malhan appreciated the initiative of the Department of Sociology in organizing such a lecture. The lecture was followed by the interaction session in which faculty members, research scholars and students of the University participated. The programme began with the floral tributes to Prof Dube and lightening of the lamp. Prof. Abha Chauhan, Head, Department of Sociology presented the welcome address and highlighted the achievements of the Department.
Dr. Vishav Raksha, Associate Professor threw light on the life and contribution of Prof. Dube. Dr. Hema Gandotra, Asstt. Professor introduced the speaker Prof. Anand Kumar to the audience and Suresh Babu, Asstt. Prof. presented the formal vote of thanks. Shveta Sharma, Asstt. Prof. conducted the proceedings of the programme.
