| IIIM celebrates foundation day | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 1: Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIM) celebrated its Foundation Day today. On this occasion Dr G. Vijay Nair, Ex-Director, National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology, Trivandrum (Kerala) delivered the foundation day lecture and Prof. RNK Bamezai, VC, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra presided over the function. The function started by lighting the ceremonial lamp and a melodious invocation song by the students of HIM School.
Dr. Ram Vishwakarma, Director HIM Jammu welcomes the honored guest and introduced the foundation day speaker Dr. G. Vijay Nair to the audience. While commenting on the achievements of HIM Jammu Dr. Vishwakarma highlighted the focus of HIM on the development of leads for various diseases from herbal and synthetic derivatives.
In the foundation day lecture entitled "Enchanting the World of Organic Chemistry" Dr. Nair showed how organic chemistry played a crucial role in improving the health and welfare of mankind, and in creating wealth for nations. He also discussed the importance of organic chemistry in drug discovery; it was illustrated by selected examples from different areas. Prof. Bamezai appreciated the work done at HIM Jammu and also released a new variety of Monarda citriodora developed by this institute. Dr. Nair also gave away the prizes to the winners of various games which were celebrated during the week long celebrations of IIIM Foundation Day.
