| Nearly 1400 cases of appointment on basis of fake documents | | | AGENCY
New Delhi, Dec 1 About 1,400 cases of appointments made in 30 ministries and government departments on the basis of allegedly false or fake caste certificates have come to light.
"Some cases of appointments made on the basis of allegedly fake caste certificates have come to the notice of the Government. As per information received from 30 ministries/departments, there were about 1,383 cases of appointments made on the basis of allegedly false/fake certificates," Minister of State for DoPT V Narayanasamy told Lok Sabha in a written reply.
He said the CBI has registered 58 cases against 67 persons on allegations of appointment on the basis of fake caste certificates.
The Minister said the government has issued instructions to the effect that the appointing authorities should verify the caste status of a SC/ST candidate at the time of initial appointment and promotion against a vacancy reserved for them.
"The instructions further provide that verification of caste status should be done at every important upturn of employee''s career so that the benefit of reservation and other schemes of concessions among others, meant for SCs/STs go only to rightful claimants," he said.
