6-lane Satwari-Kunjwani road to be completed by 2012 | 26 lakhs for Peer Baba shrine development: Bhalla | | early times report JAMMU, Dec 02: To ease rush on 3.6 kilometer long Satwari-Kunjwani double lane road, the Government has formulated a comprehensive project costing Rs. 50 crore under Central Road Funding (CRF) . The project involves construction of 6-lane road and 2 bridges, deep drains on either side besides, Water Bound Macadam and River Bed, said Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Raman Bhalla, here today. The Minister said this after laying the foundation stone of 3.6 kilometer long deep drain at Ashok Nagar near Satwari chowk, estimated to cost Rs. 6 crore. Superintending Engineer, Public Works Department (R&B) P L Bhushan and other senior officers of the department accompanied the Minister.Interacting with the locals, Bhalla said that on the completion and its upgradation to 6-lane, the traffic congestion on Satwari-Kunjwani road would be reduced to a large extent. He asked the people to vacate encroachments from the Government land voluntarily, otherwise necessary action would be initiated against the illegal occupants. He appealed to the people to cooperate with the executing agencies so that the project would be completed within prescribed time frame. He said that coalition Government is committed to complete the project within two years for the convenience of general masses. The Minister asked the PWD authorities to complete the deep drain work on right and left sides of the road within stipulated time frame by diverting water into Landoi Choi nallah. He said the construction of concrete water passage will benefit people of Digiana, Ashok Nagar and Gangyal Industrial Estates, besides adjoining basties including Akali Kour Singh Nagar, Digiana Camp, Nai Basti and Jeevan Nagar. Bhalla said that the Government has also formulated a plan for beautifying the area from Satwari to Kunjwani by planting ornamental plants along side the road. He said that Government has earmarked Rs. 1 crore for construction of a park on available space in Akali Kour Singh Nagar on modern lines. He said that the instructions have been issued to Flouriculture Department for developing parks and strips along canals and nallahs adding Rs. 7 crore had been earmarked for the purpose. For smooth execution of road widening works, the Minister asked the PDD and PHE departments to remove the Water Supply Lines, besides Low Transmission and High Transmission lines from the areas coming under the ambit of road project. Later, the minister accompanied by Minister of State for Haj and Auqaf Aijaz Ahmed Khan on Thursday evening laid foundation stone for development and beautification of Pir Baba Kanju Sahib (RA) at Kunjwani to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 26 lakh. Addressing the gathering, Bhalla asked the Haj and Auqaf Trust to complete the development work within stipulated time frame by constructing dome, minars, kitchen and prayer hall on modern lines. He said that coalition government is making all out efforts to develop all the ziarats by providing all infrastructure facilities to the devotees. In his address, Aijaz greeted the people of the locality and said that on the concerted efforts of Bhalla, the Haj and Auqaf Trust has earmarked Rs. 26 lakh for development and beautification of the ziarat. He said that the revered pond also developed on modern lines adding that the instructions have been issued to tourism department to prepare detailed project report and submit the same for funding so that the construction work could be started. |
