J&K bowlers contain Andhra to 219 for 6 | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 2: Doing quite a good job, hosts Jammu and Kashmir today contained the star studded side of Andhra Pradesh to a modest total of 219 for six in 90 overs on the second day of the ongoing Ranji Trophy Plate Group-B league tie at GGM Science College Hostel ground, here. Could not do well against calculated bowling from J&K, especially the spells bowled by the trio of skipper Abid Nabi, Mohd Mudhasir and Raman Dutta, Andhra were still in need of 34 more runs to match J&K's first innings total of 253. However, B Sumanath played exceptional innings and surprised the opponent bowlers by not allowing them to cause more damage by playing patiently the last 19 overs with KS Sahabuddhin at the other end. Andhra lost their sixth wicket in the shape of V Lennin on the last delivery of 71st over. Sumanath, who completed half century under tense conditions, was playing at 52 while Sahabuddhin was at the striking end with 14 runs in his account when stumps were draw. Earlier, opener HH Watekar and wicketkeeper batsman, LNP Reddy made a great start and steadily built the Andhra innings. Both together added 71 runs for the first wicket stand but Reddy was caught by Asif Jeelani on the bowling of pacer Abid Nabi. Abid clinched three wickets to emerge as most successful bowler of the day with three for 63 in 26 overs. Watekar was caught leg before by Muddasir at 71 when score on board had already reached 137 runs in 50 overs for the loss of four wickets. From J&K, Mohd Muddassir and Raman Dutta also bowled well taking away two and one wicket respectively. |
