12/2/2010 10:15:53 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 2: Organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Taekwondo Association, the 2nd North Zone (Senior, Junior and Sub-junior) Taekwondo (Kyorugi, Poomsae) Championships shall be held at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here fraom tomorrow.
In this three-day competition, seven states and two departmental teams expected to participate.
This was stated by the Minister for Sports, RS Chib in a press conference held here this afternoon. Chib, who otherwise has nothing to do with the Association, all of a sudden came to the rescue of `disputed' body along with his two senior officers highlighting the achievements state has made in the game.
Flanked by Secretary Youth Affairs, Sports and Technical Education, BA Runyal and Director General Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), Shamim Leharwal, Minister treated himself as someone above internal disputes within the sports bodies. "I am not bothered about internal disputes of the Associations, what I want is to promote sports and sportspersons by offering them platform to excel and perform," said the Minister. Surprisingly, neither president of the J&K Taekwondo Association, PC Sharma and organizing secretary of the North Zone event, DN Pangotra were allowed to speak anything about the championship.
The competition as per the Minister shall be declared open at 4 pm tomorrow at MA Stadium. He informed that 500 players shall be competing for the top honours in different age groups under the guidance of 25 technical officials.
Participating states in this meet are Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Chandigarh as also Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Indo-Tibet Border Police (ITBP).
