International Day for disabled celebrated | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT UDHAMPUR, Dec 3: Indian Democratic Human Rights Organization (IDHRO), an NGO organized a function here to celebrate International Day for disabled. The programme held under the chairmanship of IDHRO president Sarita Devi in which a large number of NGO’s workers participated. Speaking on the occasion, a prominent social worker Anil Paba said that the main purpose to celebrate the day is to bring attitudinal changes in the society to provide facilities to the disabled. He said that observance of the day had made an impact that the people now have become aware of children with disabilities and cannot sweep them under the carpet. He added that as per government survey eight percent of the Indian population is disabled. This means that for every 100 persons sitting in a theatre, there will be eight disabled sitting along. He said that International Day of persons with disabilities was introduced in 1992 by the United Nations with the goal of recognizing those who live with disabilities as well as to celebrate their accomplishments and the contributions they make. NGO showed concern over plight of administration and demanded better facilities for them in the district.
