VAT filing date extended | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, December 3: Responding to the repeated demands of Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu (CCIJ), the state government has extended the dates for filing the Value Added Tax (VAT) returns up to December 20, 2010. The CCIJ president, Y V Sharma had been impressing upon the government since long time to extend the dates for filing of VAT returns for the 1st and 2nd quarters in view of continuous disturbed conditions in the valley. The Chamber had been emphasizing that since the business activities of the two regions rather all the three regions of the state are inter-connected and the trading and industrial community has not been in a position to keep their accounts in order as well as the money could not be collected so they were facing difficulties to file the returns and deposit the tax. It had also raised the issue of extending the date for renewing the VAT registration certificate which, it claimed, the government has ultimately agreed to extend by another one year. According to a press statement issued by CCIJ, the members of the trading and industrial community who failed to get their VAT registration certificates renewed can now get it renewed by June 2011.
