Statistics in science and technology conference on Dec 8

Jammu, December 3: The Department of Statistics, University of Jammu is organising its first-ever three-day-long international conference from December 8.
The theme of the conference will be “Development and applications of statistics in emerging areas of science and technology.”
About 275 delegates from various universities in India and abroad are participating in the conference.
The department is also hosting 30th annual convention of Indian Society for Probability and Statistics (ISPS) from December 8.
Besides, it is also organising a four-day-long national workshop on ‘Modern Tools in Applied Statistics’ from tomorrow.
Giving details about the conference, convener of the conference and HoD Statistics, Prof J P Singh Joorel said the 50 delegates from USA, Canada, South Africa and Finland have registered themselves for the conference while 22 have made their confirmation to take part in it.
“This is for the first time the department is organizing such a mega event. Prof Vimal Roy, Director Indian Statistics Institute, Kolkata will deliver inaugural address while Prof H L Koul from USA will present a technical address,” Joorel said. Prof Joorel said the conference proposes to address the emerging domain on development and applications of Statistics in current areas of Science and Technology by bringing together on a common platform the experts from the academic and industries to deliberate on a wide spectrum of issues.
“The focus will be to discuss the development and use of statistical techniques in emerging areas of science and technology. Besides it will help in serving of experience and exchange of ideas which willv foster national and international collaboration,” he maintained. About the national workshop beginning from tomorrow, Prof Joorel said that 58 delegates from different universities of the country are participating while 12 delegates from abroad will be the part of it.
