| Handa College organises seminar on World AIDS Day | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 3: A one-day seminar was organised at Handa College of Education in collaboration with State Aids Prevention and Control Society on prevention of AIDS, role of education.
Students from the college and Tiny Tots Higher Secondary School participated.
Dr Wasim Qureshi, project director , State Aids Prevention and Control Society was the chief guest and Dr Sajjad Shafi, deputy director, State AIDS Prevention and Control Society was the guest of honour .
The programme started with welcome speech by the principal in which she emphasised that HIV positive people should not be pitied but hugged . They form an integral part of the society as any other person so we need to change our attitude regarding them. The participants shared their respective views regarding this deadly disease syndrome.
The chairperson of the college Veena Handa emphasised that one should spread awareness and not AIDS and education is the only tool needed for the achievement of the desired goal . Other dignitaries were Dr Kum Kum Sharma, Prof and head blood transfusion department ASCOMS, managing director of the college Dr Vikram Handa and Director of the college Gurpreet Handa .
The prizes for voluntary blood donation poster-making competition which was held on October 14 in Handa College of Education in collaboration with blood transfusion department ASCOMS, Sidhra in which the students from Tiny Tots Higher Secondary School participated.
The prizes were also distributed among the winners at the end of the programme . The first prize symposium was won by Heena Sheikh of Handa College and Amandeep Kour Nanda of Tiny Tots Higher Secondary School, whereas the first prize in the poster-making competition was won by Heena Sheikh of Handa College and Komalpreet Kour of Tiny Tots Higher Secondary School. The programme was hosted by Shaifali , a student of the college and was concluded with a vote of thanks by Shruti Raina .
