Disability Day observed in various districts

JAMMU, December 03:To observe the Disability Day in various districts, Jammu Principal Sessions Judge, A.K. Shan, Chairman, District Legal Service Authority, Jammu visited Home for Blinds, Mother Teresa Home for Disabled and Destitude.
He interacted with the inmates of both homes wherein large number of mentally retarded persons were also present. In order to carry out the object of disability day, the staff of the Home was made aware about the various protections and rights available under J&K Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, protection of Rights and Full Participants) Act, 1998.
On the occasion, a booklet authored by Justice Virender Singh titled “I am one you” was distributed among the inmates who are mentally ill and staff of homes.
In this connection, a workshop on Rights of Disabled persons was held in District Court Complex, Udhampur. The programme was organized by Tehsil Legal Services Committee, Udhampur.
Principal District and Sessions Judge, Udhampur A.K. Sharma informed the participants that such like occasions gives opportunity to express solidarity with the disabled people. He further said that deformity in one’s physical or mental capability is the worst that befall on a person during his life time. He referred to Articles 41 and 46 of the Constitution of India, which provides for development of the disabled community.
A Disability Day’ was also celebrated in District Court Complex, Ramban under the chairmanship of. Bala Jyoti, Principal District & Sessions Judge and Chairperson District Legal Services Authority for the welfare of disabled persons. On the occasion, a Legal Clinic/Workshop on “Rights of Disabled Persons in J&K” was organized wherein President Bar Association Ramban, Advocates, Munsiff Ramban, Executive Magistrates, Law Students, Police Officers and Prosecuting Officers participated and spoke on the occasion. Two sessions were conducted, in the first session a legal clinic was organized for the welfare of Disabled Persons and in the second session Legal Awareness camp on Legal Rights of HIV/AIDS affected person was organized.
