Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 3: Congress has begun talking about reluctance of National Conference leadership from participating in the crucial meeting of the coordination committee of the two coalition partners.
Congress leaders, according to sources are blaming Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for underestimating importance of the coordination panel which had been formed to sort out various political, organizational and security related issues between Congress and the National Conference. They are openly saying that Omar deliberately pulled out of the meeting of the coordination committee that was to be held in Jammu on November 28.
They said the meeting had to be postponed after Omar flew to Delhi to meet Sonia Gandhi. Sources said that a number of issues were to be discussed in the meeting. According to these congress sources, meet was proposed to discuss Chief Minister’s purported irrational and illogical attitude towards congress while taking important decisions especially giving clearance for various projects.
Sources referred to central government's sanction for setting up 11 degree colleges and 18 polytechnics in the state. They said that though the Centre had given the sanction for these institutions, state Government had to identify the places where these polytechnics and degree colleges were to be set up. They said that chief Minister violated coalition dharma by not consulting Congress while deciding about the places where these institutions were to be set up.
While referring to the Finance Commission's report, Congress leaders said that those who framed the report had been guided and influenced by the National Conference leadership. They said that the commission had been set up to recommend measures for undoing prolonged regional discrimination but it has added to the sufferings of the two regions of Jammu and Ladakh. Congress leaders want the government to reject the report, citing the reason that two members of the commission have given their dissenting note. They suggested that the commission be asked to carry out review of its exercise and prepare a fresh report. Congress leaders want the Chief Minister to implement the decisions taken during the coordination committee meetings held earlier and initiate measures for reducing the level of conflict between the Congress and the National Conference.
