EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar, Dec 4: Shafaqat Special School for children with multiple disabilities observed the world disability day on Saturday at its premises Bemina.
The function was attended by hundreds of children suffering from multiple disabilities besides parents and people from all walks of life.
Presided by Abdul Hameed Zargar, Director SKIMS, Soura, the function was inaugurated with a variety show that was conducted by these special children.
The children also presented a fashion show and various musical shows.
The performances that were enacted by the children generated applause and appreciation from the enthusiastic gathering.
Earlier, during his inaugural speech presented by the president Shafaqat Special School, Mir Mohammad Maqbool, a special thrust was laid on enhancing the facilities and services that need to be provided to the children suffering from multiple disabilities.
“The children suffering from multiple disabilities need various facilities for their rehabilitation and this feat cannot be accomplished by efforts by a small group of people,” Maqbool said.
“We need a cohered effort and dedication so that we are able to provide some relief to these needy children,” he said.
Maqbool said that Kashmir valley has witnessed an increase in the number of people with multiple disabilities because of the turmoil and the government and various NGO’s need to come forward to provide a helping hand to them.
“The government should formulate a policy that will go a long way in providing help and succor to these special children as the rehabilitation process is cumbersome and even very costly,” Maqbool said.
He said that presently we do not posses any special rehabilitation center or facility to provide any help to the children suffering from multiple disabilities.
Zargar also stressed the need to create awareness among people so that the chances of children suffering from multiple disabilities are reduced.
Special children from Life Line Special School also presented a dance item on this occasion. Later the Chief Guest presented awards to special children who participated in different shows. Special prize was given to Syed Zafar, student of Shafaqat Special School who recently qualified tenth class examinations conducted by BOSE.
