RS Pura town presents deserted look, resentment brewing up
11/4/2006 11:34:27 PM
RS PURA | NOV 3- R S Pura town, an important trade center prior to partition, is loosing its importance and charm slowly and steadily. The town, known for producing famous ‘Basmati Rice’ presents a deserted look, sans basis facilities aand gives a look like a tiny village of a far-flung and remote area.
The town, just 15 kilometres away from the winter capital, granted sub-district status recently by the State Government, gives a deserted look with roads and lanes chocked, dilapidated and covered with filth, posing serious threat to the environment and life of the people.
While talking to some of the residents of the town, this reported was told that the Government has altogether neglected the area for the reasons best known to them. No attention is being paid to develop the town what to speak of taking up development works or repairing of the main road. The condition of the inner roads is so precarious that it becomes difficult for the people to walk on these during rains season.
The drains and nallahs are always found full with silt and garbage emitting foul smell, streetlights non-functional, HT wires worn out posing serious threat to human lives and cattle.
Less said the better it is, the general bus stand in the town presents an ugly look. It is devoid of passenger sheds, lighting facilities and other comforts for the commuters. During rainy season and summer months it becomes difficult for passengers to board or alight the bus, as there are number of ditches, full of dirty water, breeding ground for mosquitoes due to water logging. No repair work of the bus stand has been executed during the last ten years or so, the inhabitants complained.
Despite repeated requests the concerned authorities have failed to make any improvement in the prevailing civic scenario in the town though funds for the purpose are regularly earmarked for such works.
The main road from Satwari to Suchetgarh also needs immediate attention of the authorities while work on the four- lane road needs to be expedited. Owing to bad condition of the road, a number of accidents have taken place in the recent past claiming several human lives.
Similar is the case with the civic amenities. There is a great resentment against the municipal authorities for its failure in providing civic amenities in the town. It is alleged that the Municipal authorities are paying little attention and are least worried about the cleanliness and development of the area.
Encroachments on both sides of the road have become the order of the day with not body bothered to check these or even initiate action against the encroachers. There are allegations that the agencies concerned to check encroachments are hand in glow with the encroachers and with their active connivance and under their very nose these encroachments take place.
The inhabitants are voicing their concern about the neglect of the area and have urged the Government in general and Chief Minister in particular to pay a visit to the area to see himself the bad condition of the town. The inhabitants complained that no development work worth the name has been taken up in the area in the recent past.
