Gynaecological education programme held | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU DEC 04 : Academic Club Government Hospital, Sarwal organised an educative programme for gynaecologists on “Robotic assisted Laparoscopic Radical Hysterectomy”. Dr Kasturi Lal Gupta, ex-Principal and Head of Gynecology & Obstetrics Department, Govt Medical College Jammu, was special invitee. Dr Arun Sharma, Medical Superintendent, Government Hospital, Sarwal was present along with other gynecologists & surgeons namely Dr Subash Abrol, Dr Anil Mehta, Dr Jyotsana Lamba, Dr Rajesh Gupta, Dr Kamini, Dr Sapna Gupta, Dr Ashfaq, Dr Vijay Kumari, Dr Rajeev Sharma and other doctors. Dr Kasturi Lal Gupta interacted with all the doctors and showed them a surgery recorded during his visit to Netherlands. He showed the hysterectomy in the literal sense of the word means merely removal of the uterus, however, other organs such as ovaries, fallopian tubes and the cervix are very frequently removed as part of the surgery. Radical hysterectomy : complete removal of the uterus, cervix, upper vagina, and parametrium. Indicated for cancer. Lymph nodes, ovaries and fallopian tubes are also usually removed in this situation.
Dr Arun Sharma thanked Dr Kasturi Lal Gupta. It was decided that further educative programmes including live surgeries would be regularly held at Government Hospital, Sarwal to enhance the skills of the surgeons.
