GCW, Parade first in western vocal solo contest | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU DEC 04: The jam packed Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium echoed with the beats of Octopads and musical notes of synthesizers, hollow and electric guitars, wherein western vocal solo and western group singing competitions, were conducted by the Department of Students Welfare under the ongoing ‘Display Your Talent’ 2010-11. Harleen Kour from GCW, Parade bagged first prize in Western Vocal Solo Competition, whereas Aman Sharma from Govt. Medical College, Jammu and Aashima Mahajan from the Business School, both were adjudged second while the third prize went to Sheena Maini from the Department of English. Certificates of Merit were awarded to Apoorva Jamwal, GCW Parade, Avnish Sharma, the Law School, JU and Gurvinder Kour, Department of Political Science. The team from GCW Parade bagged the top honour in the Western Group Song competition. GCW, Gandhi Nagar and GCW, Udhampur were adjudged second and third respectively. The team from SPMR College of Commerce, was awarded the Certificate of Merit Adjudicators. Dr. Sadaf Shah, the team from SPMR College of Commerce, was awarded the Certificate of Merit. Shwetambri Sharma, Dr. Manvi Gupta and Vikrant were amongs the adjudicators. Dr Sadaf Shah, the teacher incharge for the Western Music made the participants conversant with the rules and regulations of the competitions. The prizes were distributed by Prof. N.K. Tripathe, Dean Students Welfare. Earlier Prof. Jasbir Singh,Co- Chairman, Campus Cultural Committee in his welcome address said that the endeavour of the Department of Students Welfare and the Campus Cultural Committee is to provide suitable platform to the younger generation to exhibit their talent and display their creative pursuits. Among others Dr Shallendra Singh, Association Dean (SW), Dr Sucheta Patania, Dr Akash Chaman, Dr Amitpal Kour, Dr Surinder Sharma and Vinay Thussu, PRO, were also present on this occasion. The contest was supervised by Dharampal Sharma, Gurpal Singh, Surinder Singh Bhalla and Kulbhushan Thakur.
