National workshop on applied statistics begins | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 4: Inaugural function of four day national workshop on modern tools in applied statistics being organized by PG Department of Statistics of University of Jammu was held here today. The inaugural function was attended by about 80 participants from all over the country along with few from foreign countries like South Africa, Iran and Iraq. Four day deliberations will be conducted by experts in the field of Applied Statistics which would include experts from Indian Statistical Institutes, IIT’s, Universities and Industry from India and Abroad. Dean Academic Affairs Prof R.D.Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion while M.K.Dwivedi was the guest of honour. Prof J P Singh Joorel welcomed the guests and spoke at length about the theme of the workshop and proposed that the workshop intends to look and train young statisticians to broader modern tools in applied statistics with the aim of taking stock of recent trends and developments in the field of applied statistics. M K Dwivedi was concerned about lack of statistical data availability at different levels which hinders planning process and development of the nation. Prof R D Sharma spoke on the importance of Modern tools of Statistics and deliberated upon their applications for development of science and technology. Organizing Secretary of the workshop Dr Rahul Gupta presented vote of thanks and the proceedings of the function were conducted by Priyanka Anand and Roohi Gupta.
