Winning start by DGP XI in Atman Premier League

JAMMU, December 05: The Director General of Police (DGP) XI today made a wining start outplaying Director Health Services XI by 48 runs in the inaugural match of the Atman Premier League T20 Cricket Cup at MA Stadium, here.
It was Naresh Kumar (Nishu), who scripted DGP XI’s emphatic win making unbeaten 92 runs.
Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, DGP XI set a target of 169 runs for the loss of three wickets, which, in reply, Health Services could not chase and bowled out for 120 runs.
Openers Nishu and Rajesh Gill started the innings on positive note. Nishu remained unbeaten on 92 runs made with the help of 13 fours and two sixes while Gill contributed 35 runs studded with five hits to the fence.
Nishu got a reprieve when he found his stumps uprooted by Arun Sharma on a ‘No Ball’ early in the innings. He, however, utilized the opportunity to perfection to play a quick-fire knock. Manzoor and Shashi chipped in with 15 and 13 runs respectively.
From Director Health XI, DP Singh, Anumoddan and Arun Sharma took one wicket each.
In reply, Director Health XI bowled out for 120 runs. Satinder was top scorer with 49 runs while Vikram contributed 33. Balwan was the pick of the bowlers from DGP XI who scalped three wickets while RK Bhat, Shabir, Manzoor and Parihar shared a piece each. The match was officiated by Sudhir Singh and Harbinder Singh.
Earlier, this week-end tournament, organised by police officers and advocates, was declared open by Inspector General of Police, Ashok Gupta, who was chief guest.After playing a few balls the toss of coin by the IGP marked the inauguration of the tournament.
Speaking to the teams playing the opening match, the chief guest said that J&K Police was committed to promote sports and games in the state.
While highlighting the activities held by the department, Gupta said that the department held Police Youth Promotional Cricket Cup for budding cricketers recently besides holding Police Martyrs’ Memorial tournaments in various sports disciplines at different places in the state.
The welcome address was presented by Pawan Khajuria, Chief Prosecuting Officer.
