Workshop on Modern Tools in Applied Statistics held | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 5: On the second day of four day national workshop on “Modern Tools in Applied Statistics” being organized by the PG Department of Statistics, University of Jammu, the lectures were organized in which eminent scholars advocated the application of latest tools of applied statistics. Prof H K L Rao from Chennai delivered lecture on the topic Statistics@work and threw light on applications of statistical models for Traffic Management, Railways Networking, Inventory problems. Prof S K Upadhyay, eminent Professor from Benares Hindu University, Varanasi spoke at length on application of Bayesian Methods in Statistics and showed their applications in Medical and Actuarial Sciences. Dr Shalabh from IIT Kanpur and Dr Rudra Pradhan from IIT Kharagpur gave good presentations on applications and modeling of Measurement error and Multivariate data, respectively. Addressing the delegates, Prof J P Singh Joorel , Head , Department of Statistics, University of Jammu spoke at length about the theme of the workshop and proposed that the Workshop intends to look and train/expose the young statisticians to the broader modern tools in applied statistics with the aim of taking stock of recent trends and development in the field of applied statistics, in particular and to provide future directions to young researchers and practitioners, in general. The lectures session was attended by Dr.Rahul Gupta, Dr.Pawan Kumar, Dr.Parmil Kumar, Dr. Ramesh Gupta and others eminent scholars. In the evening the participants were taken for a short sightseeing tour of the city and the foreign participants, in particular were happy to see the local temples and the Bagh e Bahu. Ends---
