EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, December 05: Jammu district shall be playing against Poonch in both boys and girls finals tomorrow in the ongoing 23rd State Volleyball Championship, organised by Volleyball Association of J&K at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Akhnoor. In the boys’ semi-finals, played today, Jammu defeated Baramulla 3-1 (24-26, 25-16, 25-16, 25-15) while district Poonch outplayed Kathua in straight sets 25-23, 25-21, 25-13 to set the stage for an interesting final. In girls section, Jammu downed district Udhampur in easy straight sets 25-09, 25-11, 25-16. Arti Sharma, Sazia Sultan played well for the winners Jammu. Later, Poonch girls defeated first timers in the competition, district Leh 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-14). The Results: Quarterfinals: Boys: Jammu bt Srinagar 25-10, 25-19; Kathua bt Budgam 25-12, 25-22; Baramulla bt Udhampur 25-19, 26-28, 15-10; Poonch bt Anantnag 25-21, 25-15. Girls: Udhampur bt Srinagar 26-24, 25-14; Leh bt Kathua 25-18, 25-20; Jammu bt Rajouri 25-14, 25-15. Today’s matches were officiated by a penal of referees including Amarjit Singh, Rajesh Virdhy, Shashi Sharma, Mulkh Raj, Ashok Kumar, Vijay Kumar, Neeraj Sharma, Vikas Karlopia, Manik Nargotra and Amit Sharma. Meanwhile, according to general secretary of the Association, Kuldeep Magotra, the girls final shall take place at 12.30 pm followed by the title clash in boys’ section at 2.30 pm and prize distribution function.
