Extend 73rd, 74th amendment of constitution to state: Prof Soz | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Bani (Kathua), Dec 5: Advocating empowerment of Panchayati Raj institutions in the state on the pattern of 73rd and 74th Amendments of the Constitution of India in order to fully democratize them, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Prof Saifuddin Soz said that it is imperative to make them effective organs of local-self governance. Addressing a mammoth Congress rally at Bani today Prof Soz said that father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi had realized that the Panchayat Raj can transform the dream of development scenario in the country and this dream was translated into reality by late Rajiv Gandhi by way of 73rd and 74th Amendments. The people have become masters of their own choice in the planning and development at the lowest level in the country. The people of the state should also be given the opportunity to fully involve in the process of development and democracy Prof Soz who is on two-day tour of Basohli and Bani area of Kathua district cautioned the people about the dangers to unity and integrity of the country from the communal and divisive forces. The PCC Chief appealed to the people of Bani to be on the forefront to defeat the designs of such forces adding that the unity and togetherness of the state is by itself a guarantee for the equitable and balanced development of all parts of the state. Prof Soz said the maintaining unity and integrity of the state is of paramount importance for the Congress and the party is always committed to maintain it. Reiterating the commitment of the Congress for equitable development of all parts of the state, PCC Chief said that Coalition government in the state has the all out financial support of the Congress led UPA government at the centre to bring all round development in all parts of the state especially the remote and backward areas like Bani. He said that the vast tourism potential of these areas needs to be exploited fully to bring economic upliftment of people. Speaking on the occasion, Senior Vice President PCC and former Deputy Chief Minister Mangat Ram Sharma recalled his long association with Bani-Bashohli and said that Kathua district has always supported the Congress party for its policies and programmes. Sharma asked the party men to work for strengthening the party and asked them to involve themselves in the service of poor and down trodden.
