| Sadhu withdraws Rs 1.3 lakh from ATM, caught | | | JAMMU: A sadhu was today apprehended by police for allegedly withdrawing Rs 1.30 lakh from an ATM of State Bank of India through fraudulent means. Police sources said a woman of Janipura was regular visitor to the kutia of one Gautam Bawa at Purkhoo.Few days back, when the sadhu demanded money from her, she gave him her ATM card of SBI and asked him to withdraw the cash from her
account.
Sources said the sadhu used the ATM card and withdrew Rs 1.30 lakh from the account.
The card, which the woman had given to the sadhu, actually belonged to an army jawan and the bank had given it to her by mistake.In the meantime, the jawan came to know about the fraudulent withdrawal from his account and lodged a report with the Janipura
police station.Today, the woman took the card back from the sadhu and went to the
ATM to withdraw some cash. The moment she put the card in the ATM, the bank officials alerted police, which immediately swung into action and held the lady.
Sources said the lady told police that the card had been given to her by the bank and she had done nothing wrong. On her disclosure that she had given the card to the sadhu, police raided the latter's kutia at Purkhoo and picked him up.
During questioning, the sadhu confessed to have withdrawn the cash from the ATM.
Sources said the sadhu had agreed to return the money withdrawn by him from the ATM.
Police had registered a case in this connection.Sources said the bank officials had by mistake given the jawan's ATM card to the woman and that of the woman to the jawan
