EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 5: Shoaib Iqbal: There is no need to waste precious space on Iqbal because he belongs to the LJP of Ram Vilas Paswan, who, along with Lalu Prasad Yadav of the RJD, are squarely responsible for destroying and looting and plundering Bihar and creating schism in the society. But will they do in Kashmir when they have annoyed their own constituency in Bihar?
Gopal Choudary of CPI-M and D Raja of CPI: They are not corrupt to the best of the knowledge of this scribe, but they belong to parties which, like the LJP and RJD, believe in fake secularism and accentuate angularities between the communities and set one caste against another. They believe in the British policy of "divide and rule." But more than that, they subscribe to an ideology that doesn't really believe in the concepts of nationalism, nation, state, borders and sovereignty. They believe in the Chinese dictum: "power flows from the barrel of Gun."
Besides, the Indian left has always advocated greater autonomy for Kashmir overlooking the fact that Kashmir doesn't represent the whole of the state and that the people of Jammu and Ladakh vehemently oppose the autonomy demand. Earlier, the Indian Left was in favour of Kashmir becoming part of Pakistan. In fact, it didn't believe in two-nation theory. It believed in over 20-nation theory (Adhikari Thesis). In other words, it was of the view that Indian consisted of more than 20 nations and each nation had the right to secede. Though the Left has abandoned the obnoxious Adhikari Thesis, it still believes that Kashmir is a political problem that needs to be tackled politically. This means a dispensation outside the Indian Constitution. Right now the CPI and the CPI-M are up against the Maoists and Naxals. The reason is that the Maoists are challenging the CPI-M-led government in West Bengal and targeting and killing the CPI-M workers. Another reason is that the Maoists and the Trinmol Congress of Mamta Bannerjee appear to be on the same page. The target of Bannerjee is the CPI-M-led Left government in West Bengal and she feels that working with the Maoists would make her task easy. It is very, very important to note that the Left parties, like the RJD and the LJP, have been totally rejected by the people of Bihar.
Namo Nageshwar Rao of Telgu Desham Party (TDP & Danish Ali of Janata Dal (Secular): They do not know anything whatever about Jammu and Kashmir. They belong to parties which, like the Left parties and the RJD and the LJP, do not really subscribe to secular ideology. They also seek empowerment not on the basis of democratic and economic issues but on such slogans as secularism, Yadav & Paswan-style. They advocate policies which, instead of uniting people, further divide them. In addition, they are not averse to the idea of Jammu and Kashmir getting more autonomy or getting a dispensation outside the constitutional organization of India. Besides, they, like the Indian Left and the RJD and the LJP, believe that the Kashmiri Muslims stand totally alienated from India, that let the Kashmiri separatists and extremists do whatever they want to do and that the security forces have been violating the "human rights" of the people of Kashmir. In short, they describe the ongoing secessionist movement in the Valley as the fall-out of the "failure of New Delhi to respect the commitments it had made at the time of accession and later on from time to time."
Maheshwar Hazari of Janata Dal (United): He is an odd face among the self-styled track - II members. He belongs to a party that has been sharing power with the BJP in Bihar for the last more than five years; that heads National Democratic Alliance (NDA); and that is opposed to the idea of the state getting more autonomy. As a matter of fact, the NDA is for closer integration of the state with the rest of the country. His association with the Paswan & Co is intriguing.
Shahid Siddiqui of Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD): Here is a man who changes colour almost every day. He was with the Congress. He was with the RJD. He was with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) of Mayawati and right now he is with the RLD of Choudhary Ajit Singh. He has mastered the art of defending himself. Sometimes, he appears quite secular, as he takes on certain Muslim leaders. At times, he speaks an altogether a different language. But as far as his views on Kashmir are concerned, there are no different from those discussed above.
As for film maker Mahesh Bhatt, journalist Seema Mustafa and Prof Kamal Mitra Chenoy of Jawaharlal Nehru University, less said the better. Their views on Jammu and Kashmir are too well-known. They, like the Kashmiri separatists and Maoists, have been consistently working for the Kashmir's segregation from the constitutional organization of India. Seema Mustafa has written a number of articles in The Asian Age indicating her unstinted support for those demanding greater autonomy/self-rule. She is a bitter critic of the Army and paramilitary forces and she has been writing extensively for one Kashmir-based English language daily known for its pro-separatist views. She is another Barkha Dutt. As far as Bhatt and Chenoy are concerned, they are the known supporters of Kashmiri separatists and Maoists. They would not mind if Kashmir becomes independent or if it becomes part of Pakistan. They are fake secularists and fake human rights activists. Their views are perverted.
These are the credentials of the self-styled track - II members. It appears they have been left with no work and, hence, they have decided to take the plunge in Kashmir so that they could also remain in the news for sometime. Who has given them the mandate to poke their nose in Jammu and Kashmir? Who are they? There is no doubt that they have come to Kashmir only to pat, glorify and provoke the Kashmiri separatists and raise their spirits. But one thing is clear: They are destined to fail. For, their intentions are not noble. (Concluded)
