Mind your language, Farooq tells Kamal | `Sher-e-Kashmir was not cut out for jail life' | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 5: Former Chief Minister and National Conference patron, Dr Farooq Abdullah today cautioned his younger brother, Dr Mustafa Kamal against issuing `controversial' statements. He was speaking at a function held to commemorate the 105th birth anniversary of Sher-e-Kashmir. "Mind your words", an angry Farooq told Kamal. "Whenever Kamal issues a statement, the media attribute it to me. But why should I do that", he said. Kamal who was also present at the function listened silently and did not show any reaction. Kamal, the youngest son of Sher-e-Kashmir has remained in news for the past few weeks for his statements against New Delhi, accession and the Congress party. Kamal's statements have evoked a severe reaction from the State Congress Chief, Saif-ud-Din Soz. He has urged the NC high command to rein in Kamal. His latest statement which was published in local English daily has been ridiculed by senior NC workers. Kamal has said his father wanted to die in prison to "fight last war with India". Kamal said on his death-bed, Sheikh said he did not want to die in his home. "He told me that he wanted to die in prison to fight last war with India. He had realized that New Delhi had ditched him time and again," According to senior NC workers, Sher-e-Kashmir hated prison. This has been also mentioned by Chowdhury Ghulam Abbas in his auto biography Kashmakash. "Sheikh was not cut out for jail life. New Delhi always detained him for prolonged periods to break his determination", he said. History books reveal Sheikh diluted his stand every time he went to jail. In 1953, according to former speaker Abdul Gani Goni, he sought independence but in 1975 he accepted Chief Ministership." Kamal said Sheikh did not die before leaving a message for the people of Kashmir: "Don't bow. Keep fighting for your rights and never let anybody exploit you." Kamal, however, did not say why Sheikh framed the Public Safety Act (PSA).
