Educational chaos in Kashmir | After separatists, now govt chooses uncanny way | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR/JAMMU, Dec 6: Virtually ruined and devastated by uncanny political programmes of separatists, educational infrastructure in the valley is now facing administrative madness of none other than Minister for School Education Peerzada Mohammed Sayeed. Having virtually failed to ensure smooth running of government as well as privately run educational institutions across Kashmir valley, Peerzada chose to penalize student community especially those going to the schools and colleges for none of their fault. He announced that schools shall remain open during the entire winter season to facilitate students to make up for the loss they suffered owing to five-month long shutdowns, protest rallies and curfew restrictions. Minister did not even for once thought of the depleted infrastructure in the government schools to prevent students from biting cold which valley witnesses for three winter months of January, February and March. This government order has come at a time when the students across the valley have already appeared in the annual examinations for their respective classes What is more ironical is the fact that Peerzada has decided to disallow winter vacations to higher classes from 9th to 12th standard. Parents are worried over this latest government circular which has already become talk of the town. They are unable to understand the logic behind keeping the government schools open during harsh winter conditions. Those living in the rural areas are worried over possibility of depleted infrastructure being able to cater to the needs of the student community living in these areas. “It is not possible for students to sustain subzero temperature in the absence of any heating arrangements,” said one Gulzar Ahmed whose two sons are studying in 9th and 11th standard. These parents want the Education Minister to modify order or make proper heating arrangements in the schools. They said that already metrological Department has predicted severe cold this winter and it would be hazardous for students if they are forced to attend classes during the months of December and February. They have suggested the minister to improve facilities in the government schools. Experts have suggested to the Minister to upgrade the infrastructure in schools instead of forcing students to suffer in the biting cold.
