Dy CM reviews prestigious road projects | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, DECEMBER 06 – To review status of various road projects which have been contemplated by the government for upgrading road network in far-flung border areas of the state, Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Tara Chand today convened a high level meeting of GREF and senior officers of the state government. Besides senior officers of GREF, the meeting was attended by Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu Sanjiv Verma and Chief Engineer, PWD(R&B), Jammu Er. D.L. Sharma. In the meeting, threadbare discussions were held on those road projects which are to be taken up for widening and a review of progress for various undertaken road projects was also done. The projects which were reviewed include four laining of Jammu-Akhnoor road, Akhnoor-Kaleeth road, Akhnoor-Jogwan via Gulaba and Khour to Pallanwala via Jaurian road project. Underscoring the need for double laining of Jammu-Akhnoor road, the Deputy Chief Minister said traffic on the road has grown tremendously and there is a strong need to upgrade the status of the road to four lain level. He instructed the concerned authorities to immediately moot a proposal for the same. He said besides catering to the needs of Aknoor area the road also connects Rajouri and Poonch districts and to address the issue of traffic on this road immediate steps are to be taken. Stressing on maintaining quality of work, Tara Chand said it is duty of those involved in the work to make sure that highest quality standards are maintained. He said that these projects are assets of society and proper quality checks need to be done during execution.
