Omar is leader of LA, Rather leader of opposition! | JK's official website is off the net | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 6: Omar Abdullah is the leader of the Legislative Assembly and Abdul Rahim Rather is the leader of opposition. A website legislativebodiesinindia.nic.in/J&K.htm gives this misinformation. The website does not furnish the name of the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs. And, the secretary of the house, according to the website is an additional secretary. Not to speak of giving a complete profile of the members of the assembly (MLAs), the website takes one back to the era when Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Congress ruled the state. Some persons who failed to make it to the house in 2008 elections still exist as members of the house. This means the department of information has not approached the website for the necessary clarifications for the past several years. A local news agency contacted an official of the Legislative Assembly. He said: "It is the duty of the information department to upgrade and maintain the website. The legislative assembly office has nothing to do with it." The news agency, however, did not name the official. However, a disclaimer contradicts the official. The disclaimer which reads: "Information posted on this website has been obtained from the State Legislature Secretariat. While every effort has been made to make the website as authentic as possible, Lok Sabha Secretariat does not accept any responsibility for the veracity of information. For further clarifications, Secretary of the State Legislative Assembly/Council may be contacted. (SIC). The website has yet wrong information to feed. It says the term of the house is five years. The Jammu Kashmir Legislative Assembly happens to be the only house in India which seeks election of its members after every six years. Another website www.sarkaritel.com/states/jammu_kashmir/mla.htm, however, has the names of all the MLAs. But the website makes no mention of the winter capital. According to it, the capital of the state is Srinagar. Repeated efforts to reach the official website of Jammu Kashmir government bore no fruit. The website www.jammukashmir.nic.in was off the net at least till 8.30 p.m when this report was filed. |
