J&K info deptt fails to cover-up | NC-Congress split wide open | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 7: Strains in National Conference (NC)-Congress coalition are wide open yet the official medium, State Information Department, which could have given it cosmetic touch to keep spilt under cover has miserably failed in its efforts. Instead, if the congress leaders are to be believed, it has added to the widening gulf between the two coalition partners, National Conference and Congress. The department has made scene murkier by resorting to lopsided and biased coverage when it comes to reporting official functions of congress leaders and ministers. Senior congress leaders have already apprised the party about this irrational and illogical approach of Jammu and Kashmir State Information Department (JKSID). They have also purportedly written letters to congress high command seeking intervention for smooth functioning of coalition government. Whether or not it is a fact but congress leaders and ministers do not miss any occasion to pin point towards state information department for its allegedly biased and one-sided approach. They openly say that the department has been acting as mouthpiece of both leaders and ministers of National Conference. Leaders of congress maintain that the department is leaving no stone unturned in appeasing Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his colleagues from the National Conference (NC). They allege that even the officials working on junior positions are acting as personal assistants of ministers and leaders of NC. Congress leaders also complain that the electronic part of information department remains almost completely absent from the official functions presided over by ministers and leaders of congress. "We want the department to work professionally and give proper coverage to all the ministers. But it is not doing so and instead is concentrating more on National Conference and coterie of CM," said a congress leader. He added that information department does not take note of controversial and concocted statements of congress leaders published in newspapers. "It is duty of information department to ensure that concocted statements are rebutted timely. But department scans every such statement if it is related to NC but when it comes to congress, its ministers and leaders are forced to use private channels and media organs for the same," added a top congress leader. |
