| Institutional reforms must to improve financial health of urban dev authorities: Dy CM | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Dec 08: Under lining the importance of fiscal discipline and institutional reforms in State’s Urban Development Authorities, Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Tara Chand said these measures are urgently needed for their better financial complexion. He said this while chairing marathon meetings of Jammu Development Authority (JDA) and Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), here today. In separate meetings detailed review of the physical and financial achievements of JDA and JMC in current fiscal was done. Underscoring the need to fine tune working of authorities involved in urban development, the Deputy Chief Minister stressed on capacity building to promote quality service for city inhabitants. While taking review of JDA, Mr. Tara Chand directed the concerned officers to make sure that land encroachments are removed immediately and land transferred to JDA is identified and possession of the same is taken for developing facilities. Stressing on the need to enhance income generation capabilities, the Deputy Chief Minister said revenue generation from various sources should be improved for self sustenance. Later, while reviewing progress of JMC, Mr. Tara Chand emphasized on creation of durable assets for the city. He directed the concerned to identify places where multi-storied parking slots, shopping malls can be developed. Commissioner JMC informed the meeting that the corporation has already identified locations at Parade, Jewel Chowk, Panjtirthi and Narwal, which can be utilized for developing assets to generate revenue. The Deputy Chief Minister called for fencing of JMC land at various places in Jammu city including the plot at Chatha and Deeli, to offset encroachment and safeguard the property. To clear the congestion on Jewel-Talab Tillo road, the Deputy Chief Minister directed JMC authorities to submit proposal for alternate road from Jewel Chowk to Bhagwati Nagar. Among those who participated include, Principal Secretary, H&UD, Mr. Suresh Kumar, Special Secretary, Mr. Showkat, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu Mr. Sanjeev Verma, Vice Chairman, JDA Mr. Vinod Sharma, Commissioner, JMC Mr. S. C. Sahani and senior functionaries of JDA and JMC in the respective meetings.
