Academy pays tributes to martyrs of Karbala | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar , Dec 8: Rich poetic tributes were paid to the martyrs of Karbala at Academy headquarters Lal Mandi Srinagar today. The Cultural Academy has a tradition of organizing Hussaini Mushaira’s on the occasion of Muharram, which marks the beginning of the new year Islamic calendar. Observing the tradition, the Academy organised a Kashmiri Hussaini Mushaira in which several eminent Kashmiri poets paid their poetic tributes to the martyrs of Karbala. The Mushaira was presided over by prominent poet and scholar, Ghulam Nabi Khayal. Noted poets Sajood Sailani and Malik Bashir Athar were also in the presidium. The other poets who paid their poetic tributes to the martyrs of Karbala included Ghulam Hassan Ghamgeen, Shabir Ahmad Shabir, Aziz Hajini, Ali Mohammad Gowhar, Ali Shaida, Zareef Ahmad Zareef, Showkat Ansari, Nissar Gulzar, Mishal Sultanpuri, Fayaz Tilgami, Zameer Ansari, Mir Shabir, Shahid Dalnawi, Ayoub Sabir, Rehman Fida and Hameed Ullah Hameed. In his presidential address Ghulam Nabi Khayal asserted that the teachings of martyrs of Karbala were more relevant in today’s materialistic world. “They (martyr’s) have taught us the lesson of determination, brotherhood, and tolerance,” Khayal said. The proceedings of the function were conducted by editor Kashmiri, Zaffar Muzaffar. Interestingly, the Cultural Academy has scheduled a series of Hussaini Musahiras in the month of December, 2010 which include Kashmiri Hussaini Mushaira on December, 9, a composite Pahari-Gojri Hussaini Mushaira on December, 13. Besides, there will also be Hussaini Mushaira in Urdu in which prominent poets of Urdu language are expected to take part.
