12/8/2010 10:05:47 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu,December 8:-Security forces and the intelligence agencies in Jammu and Kashmir have been directed to strengthen their drive against militants who were planning to carry out major strikes in various par ts of the troubled state, especially in the Jammu region.
Official sources said that inst ructions to the security forces and the intelligence agencies to upgrade their surveillance system and search operations following bom explosion in Varanasi on Tuesday in which one person was killed and 30 wounded.

Sources said that though the Indian Mujahideen, which has claimed responsibility for the blast, has no network in Jammu and Kashmir ,the terror outfit had indirect links with militant groups, including Lashkar-i-Toiba and Hizbul Mujahideen, operating in Jammu and Kashmir .

According to the sources, militants, operating in Jammu and Kashmir, have been directed to intensify their operations aagainst the security forces and politicians so that the lull in shutdowns and protest rallies in Kashmir could not create an impression that the security scenario had undergone improvement. In addition to this, agencies across the border have been told to assist militants, waiting on the launching pads across Poonch,Rajouri,Kupwara,Tangdhar,Keran,to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir.

Reports said that attempts were being made to push into the state as many groups of militants into Jammu and Kashmir as possible before the border routes would become impassable. In the context of these developments the state Government may not be in a position to relieve more companies of paramilitary forces for duty in the Maoist infested areas in the north east as decided by the union Home Ministry.
Security experts are of the view that downgrading the security and intelligence apparatus at this juncture could prove counter productive because militants were trying hard to regain th ground they had lolst during the last four years.
