| Major tragedy averted; IED defused | | | Gulmarg, Nov 05 : A major tragedy was averted when security forces defused a powerful Improvised Explosive Device on Srinagar-Gulmarg road, here this morning.
Reports revealed that a Road opening Party (ROP) of Rastriya Rifles detected a Powerful IED on Gulmarg-Srinagar road near Patrol Pump at Tangmarg. The RR column immediately cordoned off the area and flashed the massage to the concerned authorities, sources said adding, the entire vehicular traffic of the area was diverted for about three hours.
A bomb disposal squad was pressed into service which removed the IED and defused it on the spot.
“Had the IED been exploded it would have caused a major tragedy” a senior police officer told News Agency of Kashmir, adding it was only the ROP which acted quickly and defused the mine.
It is pertinent to be mentioned here that that Gulmarg is the favorite tourist destination during the current season and there is a heavy rush of vehicles on the road. |
