| 5 baratis killed, 23 hurt as bus plunges into gorge | | | Ealy Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 09:
Five members of a marriage party were killed and 23 others wounded, some of them critically, when the bus carrying them skidded off the road at Rehmbal in Udhampur late Wednesday night and fell into a deep gorge.
The ill-fated bus (JK14B/3171) was on its way from Jammu to Ramnagar. Some people from Ramnagar had come to Jammu to attend a marriage function. While they were on their way back homes in Ramnagar, the bus, in which they were travelling, met with an accident at Garnaie,
Rehmbal, police sources said.
Sources said the bus plunged into a deep gorge after the driver failed to negotiate a sharp curve, resulting in the instant death of five baratis and injuries to 23 others, including women and
children.
Cops from the nearby Rehmbal police station were the first to reach the spot and start the rescue operation. They removed all the injured to the Udhampur district hospital in police and civil
vehicles.Five of the injured were declared brought dead in the hospital. They were identified as Ved Prakash, son of Dina Nath, Sanjay Kumar, son of Girdhari Lal, Shakti, son of Nandu, Sanjeev Kumar, son of Ram Ditta, all residents of Ramnagar, and Nikku, son of Sham Lal of
Ramkote.
The injured, including driver Pritam Kumar of Dehari, Ramnagar, were undergoing treatment at the hospital. Condition of some of them was said to be serious.Police had registered a case in this connection.Police sources said the bus was carrying the marriage party members
back to Ramnagar
