Jammu students still await `good news’ | Central University VC | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 9, : One month ago when Durbar move offices were reopened here in the winter capital of Jammu, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had informed media persons that he had a direct talk with the Union HRD minister Kapil Sibal over the issue of appointment of central university vice chancellor in Jammu.
Ironically, in the last one month no head way has been made neither it was known whether the process of selection of vice chancellor is presently underway or has been put on hold.
Inside reports revealed that after turning down the name of Prof Amitabh Mattoo it was given to understand that the screening committee entrusted with the job of short listing name of vice chancellor would begin consultation process and would come up with the name of the vice chancellor to kick start the process of building university infrastructure.
Much to the discomfiture of the people of Jammu region and students, who fought for the central university the good news, is yet to come.
Even the state chief minister by sharing his recent talk with the union HRD with the media persons has pushed the ball in to the court of the central government clarifying that whatever delay has been caused it is at the behest of the central government an the state government had no role to play in to the entire issue.
Several student bodies and their representatives have time and again urged the state Chief Minister to put pressure on the Union government during his regular interaction to make sure that students do not have to face the spectre of wash out of second academic session in succession in the absence of appointment of the vice chancellor but have failed to extract any concrete assurance from the state government how soon the issue would get resolved |
