| PIL seeking status of state language for Urdu | | |

JAMMU, December: 09 (JNF):-
Division Bench of J&K High Court Jammu Wing comprising Justice Virender Singh and Justice Sunil Hali in a Public interest Litigation filed by Shiekh Abdur-Rehman former MP and one of the member of committee set-up by the Government to make recommendations regarding Urdu as the language of the state, after hearing Advocate SH Shah Ashrafi for the PIL whereas Advocate General MI Qadiri with Deputy AG GS Thakur for the State, directed Advocate General that he would file compliance report pursuant to the direction passed this Court on December 21, 2006 in PIL. Advocate General has sought three weeks time which was granted by the Court and directed Registry to list this case in the last week of December, 2010.
It is worth mentioning here that on December 21, 2006, DB directed Chief Secretary to ascertain the fact of the committee’s recommendations from the concerned quarters and to constitute an implementation committee to examine the recommendations proposed to be implemented. JNF |
