UDC of Passport Office acquitted of corruption charges | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, December: 09 (JNF):- Special Judge Anticorruption Jammu AK Koul has acquitted Manzoor Ahmed Jan UDC Passport Office Jammu who was caught red-handed by the CBI team and recovered bribe amount Rs 5000/- which was kept in a file. According to the CBI a complainant alleged in the complaint that he had applied for issuance of Passport but the issuance of the passport was delayed even after his repeated persuasion. He along with his cousin visited Passport Office where he was asked to contact accused Manzoor Ahmed Jan and on being conducted, accused demanded Rs 5000 as a legal gratification from complainant for issuance of Passport. The complaint was verified and after being satisfied a case was registered by the CBI and investigation followed and trap team constituted and laid a trap and caught red-handed the accused and recovered the bribe money. The court after hearing the parties observed that the demand of bribe attributed to accused is doubtful and so is the acceptance and recovery and as such it would be a fair conclusion that the prosecution case must failed for want of sufficient evidence. There is yet any other defect in the case it has been consistently stated by witnesses that at the time of recovery there were so many people around in the passport office, those people could be the most important independent witnesses, but none of them appears to have been associated with post-trap proceedings. There is no explanation from any one to the extent so it is a case where natural independent witnesses were available but have been left out without reason. That again costs a reflection on the conduct of the investigation and the truthfulness of the prosecution version and dismissed the prosecution case and acquitted the accused of the charges. JNF |
