Policeman injured in encounter in Ganderbal | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR Dec 10: A policeman was injured in a gunfight between a militant and security forces in Ganderbal district of central Kashmir, a senior police office said. Police last evening zeroed in on a house in Gutlibagh locality of Ganderbal district, 36 kms from here, where a local militant Mushtaq Ahmad Khan of Hizbul Mujahideen was hiding. "In the initial firefight between the two sides last evening, a policeman identified as Feroz Ahmad was injured," Ganderbal Superintendent of Police Imtiyaz Hussain said. "There has been no firing from the house for the last one hour. We will know the exact details soon. As of now we are not sure whether he is alive or dead," Hussain said. The militant, who is a local resident, is active in Ganderbal, Kangan and Harwan areas of central Kashmir. So far, the police is maintaining its cordon around the house, where the militant was believed to be hiding. However, sources said the searches so far have yielded nothing, raising doubts that militant might have escaped.
