| India to try for cordial ties with China | | | Continued belligerence on the part of India towards China may not be conducive for the interests of people in the country when China has started extending its areas of influence beyond Pakistan and Nepal. The way leading mulsim countries including Pakistan,Saudi Arabia,among 20 other nations,joined China its boycott of the Nobel peace prize ceremony indicates the growing influence of Beijing.What could prove harmful politically and economically for India is the decision of Russia to join Chinese boycott of the ceremony. During the last about three decades India has banked on the moral,material and diplomatic support from Moscow on various issues including the dispute on Kashmir.Even at the peak of acrimony between Washington and New Delhi Mocow has remained by the side of India.This very political development is said to have gradually motivated Washington to explore the possibility of cultivating India. Washington has succeeded in its efforts of narrowing down the distance with Delhi.In fact New Delhi has been in the lookout for an opportunity of promoting cordial ties with America after the disintegration of the Soviet union and following growing military ties between Beijing and Islamabad.
India has been a votary for cordial ties with Beijing but it has not succeeded in establishing friendly relations with China.And New Delhi is not responsible for it.Events have widened the distance between New Delhi and Beijing and China's extra-territorial ambition has been the main cause of the conflict between the two.China has succeeded gaining foothold in areas in Pakistan occupied Kashmir and it wanted to annex parts of Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh.Since New Delhi has not allowed China to establish its bases or even indirect control of any territory in India Beijing has opted for adopting tough postures against New Delhi.The latest Chinese irritant to Delhi is Beijing's game of issuing stapled visas to people from Jammu and Kashmir wishing to visit China.By doing so China has supported Islamabad's case on Kashmir because issuance of stapled visa to the residents of Jammu and Kashmir signifies that Beijing treats Kashmir as a disputed territory. However,growing nexus between Islamabad and Beijing,smootheing of relations between Russia and China,support of Islamamic countries to China's plan of boycotting the Nobel peace prize ceremony make it necessary for India to promote cordial ties with China.Promoting friendly ties between India and China cannot be one-sided affair.Both sides have to move a step or two forward for giving birth to the Hindi-Chini Bhai Bhai era.During the last about nine years the relations between New Delhi and Washington,between India and Japan and between India and France and Britain have improved to a great extent.It should not make India complacent in its search for establishing cordial ties with China.China like Pakistan is India's immediate neighbour and hence in the interest of peace and ecnomic growth the two countries need to shake hands.The two countries cannot live in an atmosphere of enemity.If Beijing spurns New Delhi's efforts for promoting
peaceful
ties India may be forced by circusmtances to join hands with Washington,Tokyo and Paris.If that happened it could be a big blow to India's policy of non-alignment.As far as the border issue is concerned New Delhi and Beijing should adopt give and take strategy to reduce tension.Cordial ties between India and China could keep Pakistan under check so that Islamabad stops thinking of carrying out a policy of confrontation and conflict with New Delhi.It will be better for Pakistan to realise that in the absence of cordial ties with India both countries have been spending fortunes on defence and the same money could be spent on development if the two sides learn to live in peace. |
