Execute projects timely to avoid cost escalation: PAC | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 10: Chairman, Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Legislative Assembly Abdul Rehman Veeri has directed the officers of Public Health Engineering department to ensure completion of all under execution projects in stipulated time frame to avoid cost escalation Veeri was chairing a meeting of PAC here to examine the C.A.G`s Audit paras pertaining to Public Health Engineering department, today. Threadbare discussions was held on two audit paras for the year 2008-09 of the department in which avoidable extra expenditure of Rs 1.50 crores on purchase of pipes and unfruitful expenditure of Rs. 6.86 cores due to non-completion of drinking water scheme of Kupwara town came to fore. During the meeting, Veeri after going through the reply made by the Principal Secretary of PHE department with regard to C.A.G`s Audit Para No 2.10, said that keeping in view the various aspects of the tendering work in purchase of material for execution, there should be clear cut instructions to the concerned firm or SSI unit that the supply of required material should be time bound. The retendering which often entails extra expenditure on purchase of material should be avoided. Regarding para 2.11, Veeri said that no such scheme be taken in hand where people are against the main source, adding that the source should be undisputable and perennial so that water supply scheme is executed in time bound manner. He directed the Commissioner Secretary PHE department to make accountable concerned officer in this behalf for future Legislators, Ashok Kumar, Aijaz Ahmed Jan, Dr. Shafi Ahmed Wani, , Sham Lal Choudhary, Syed Basharat Ahmed Bhukari and Naresh Chander Gupta gave their valuable suggestions to avoid extra expenditure in future. Among others, Principal Secretary, Public Health Engineering, A.K. Angurana and Chief Engineer, PHE, Kashmir, G.R. Zargar also attended the meeting.
