This is to express deep regret over the abhorrent and wretched attitude of Jammu and Kashmir government towards Early Times newspaper for its courageous journalism. More appalling is the manner in which Jammu based congress leaders have maintained criminal silence over the victimization of a particular newspaper which is being printed and published from Jammu.
Despite its nationalistic approach, newspaper is facing wrath of National Conference (NC) led government for its valiant reporting of the events and happenings within political and administrative circles. We would like to ask our legislators especially those who claim to be real representatives of the people of Jammu as to why they are silent over the government's highhandedness.
Early Times newspaper has effectively managed to carve significant space for itself among the people of Jammu. It is in real sense one of the largest read dailies of Jammu and Kashmir. Its presence has ensured that government red-tape does not go unnoticed and is reported properly.
We, as readers would like to implore upon all the Jammu based MLAs, MLCs and MPs to take note of the government repression over the Early Times newspaper for the last more than one year. Being our leaders, they have a responsibility to take up the issue with government and seek an explanation from it for trying to pub curbs on the freedom of media especially that of Early Times. They should rise above political considerations and fight for the freedom of press.
We, as readers would like to remind our representatives about the forthcoming Panchayat and Municipal body elections. Every commoner is conscious of the power of vote. He cannot be misled anymore and he knows when to unveil powers democracy has given him. Commoner has learnt the art of choosing the right course at the right time.
As readers, we firmly stand behind Early Times in these difficult times and would expect the same from our representatives. We would plead with the staff and editors of early times not to get discouraged by government persecution. Our support is with you and together, we can make a difference. You keep up with your effective and fearless reporting spirit.
