Minister releases ‘Chand Paiker’, appreciates Academy | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 11- In a well-attended function, organized by Academy of Art, Culture and Languages at KL Saigal Hall, Jammu, minister for higher education, Abdul Gani Malik released Gul Jabeen Saba’s poetry collection “Chand Paiker”. Speaking on the occasion the minister said that although Urdu was the official language of the state, it had been neglected of late. “Though Urdu is our official language, it has been ignored,” Malik said, adding, “The government was working for the revival of Urdu.” Earlier in his welcome address secretary Cultural Academy, Zafar Iqbal Manhas laid stress on the need for revival of Urdu. “Urdu is an important language and we all must work for its promotion and preservation,” Zafar said. As a tribute to Saba’s work, noted poet and critic Arsh Sehbai read a paper on her poetic collection ‘Chand Paiker’ in which he appreciated the poetess. “Saba writes well. All she needs is commendation,” Sehbai said. In her speech, Dr. Gul Jabeen thanked the Cultural Academy for organising the book release function. “I am thankful to the Cultural Academy as it is because of its support that I could release my book,” she said. Many persons of note attended the book release function. Prominent ones included additional secretaries of Cultural Academy, Savita Bakshi, Shamima Akhter and Arvinder Singh Aman. The programme proceedings were conducted by editor Pahari, Farooq Anwar Mirza.
