Ranji Trophy Plate Group-B league | Hardeep excels in J&K’s 8-wkt loss to Vidarbha | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, December 11: Gusty Hardeep Singh not only saved J&K from innings defeat but hit a magnificent century fighting a lone battle against Vidarbha in the Ranji Trophy Plate Group-B league tie played at GGM Science College Hostel ground, here today. Hardeep made career best 123 and remained unbeaten facing 217 deliveries hitting 17 boundaries. He received standing ovation from the one and all watching the innings closely on the fourth day of the play. This turbaned wicket-keeper batsman powered J&K to a respectable total of 364 in the second innings thereby forcing the visitors to pad for a 99 runs target. However, Vidarbha chased the total for the loss of two wickets in 26.3 overs to secure full eight points. Resuming their innings from overnight score of 224 for six, J&K lost skipper Abid Nabi (20). However, middle order batsman, Hardeep, who was playing at 26, completed his fifty and later crossed the century mark that too under tense conditions. The J&K total would have been on higher side had Mohd Mussassar not hit the wicket off Sheikh at 19. Pertinent to mention here that J&K has not been able to win any of the five league ties in Ranji this season. The senior state cricketers have already lost all their matches in Twenty20 event held at Delhi in October last. So, let’s hope for the best in the Ranji Trophy Vijay Hazare Trophy one-day event in coming February.
