Chill brings worry on NH | J&K govt sets-up disaster management centre | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Dec 11: Authorities have set up Disaster Management (DM) centre and Joint Control Room (JCR) in south Kashmir to meet any eventuality due to closure of the Srinagar-Jammu national highway in the event of snowfall. Officials said today said that to combat any eventuality on National Highway during snowfall, disaster management committee meeting was held here under the chairmanship of District Development commissioner, Anantnag. Meeting held threadbare discussion with regard to arrangements for relief and rescue operations and snow clearness on national highway. It was decided in the meeting that a JCR established at Qazigund will start its functioning with immediate effect at Police Station, Qazigund with contact number 235221. Control room has also been established at district headquarter with contact number 222873. To facilitate the stranded passengers during the eventuality, disaster management centre has been established at Jawahir Tunnel, Zig, Lower Munda, Saidwara, Gulab Bagh, Nasobudragund, Qazigund, and Levdoora. Sufficient quantity of essentials, blankets among others have been stocked while snow clearance machines kept in readiness.
